Clanzenetta “Mickee” Brown is the owner and principal consultant for Special Project Partners; a writing, research, and project management firm she founded in 2007.
Recent projects include the following:
- Grants research and writing for a girl-centered rites of passage program, a residential facility for young women in foster care, a civil rights organization, and a state college.
- Community and social indicator research for a health planning organizationon, and a civic engagment group in Clay County, Florida.
- Project support, volunteer management, and research for citizen-led inquiries on city budget reform, recession recovery, and early childhood education.
- Focus group facilitation and project management to build a community federally qualified health care center, discern the connections between substance abuse and the prevalence of HIV/AIDS, and determine the viability of implementing a parent-centered advocacy training program among teachers, administrators, and families.
- Developed the leadership transition plan for a community college via individual interviews and group discussion with executive staff for the purpose of inventorying, cataloging, and assigning outstanding projects.
- Business development research and strategic planning for a civil rights organization in the absence of a Chief Operations Officer.
- Strategic plan monitoring, administrative support, and proposal writing for a community council charged with improving the health outcomes of minority newborns, infants, and toddlers.
- Facilitated neighborhood discussions on the pervasiveness of infant deaths in Jacksonville’s Health Zone 1;
- Retreat facilitator for a foundation board seeking to recapitalize its endowment, and a community think tank looking to refine its organizational structure and sources of revenue.
- Grant making and grants management for an education-focused family foundation.
Mickee also served as Study Director for Jacksonville Community Council Inc. (JCCI) staffing community-based, public policy studies and the subsequent citizen-run advocacy efforts on a range of topics including:
- affordable housing:
- improving race relations;
- public education reform;
- higher education as an economic catalyst;
- attracting and retaining local talent to promote a knowledge-based economy; and
- access to, protection of, and development near the St. Johns River.
While working as the Community Health Manager at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital, Mickee oversaw research and business planning efforts for three community initiatives targeting those living with physical disabilities, including Brooks’ Elderly Falls Prevention Program with the United Way, the Brooks Club House Program (day treatment) for people living with traumatic brain injuries, and the Brooks Adaptive Sports Program. Mickee also spent 15 years in the banking and financial services industry working for various firms, including CitiStreet, Prudential Insurance, Salomon Brothers, and First Florida Bank.
